Got the letter from the zoo today.

Apparently the positions have been appointed. If so, I didn't even get an interview. This is a job I am totally confident I can do and it's my dream job. I've never felt that way about a job before. And I don't even get an INTERVIEW???

According to the letter I have been put on the files as a potential candidate for "short term or casual positions that may become available". Not much use when I'm already working a secure job because I kinda need an income.

I don't know what else I can do. Maybe I'm destined to work boring but easy office jobs for the rest of my life.

Ah bummer :-(

The one thing you can't control in job searching is the competition on the day. You might be 99.9% perfect but if that damn 100% person happens to be around at the same time there's nothing you can do (and boy has that happened to me). Well, if you can identify them in advance there's always the ninja assassin approach.

You'll get there one day, even if you don't yet know where there will be.

Have you asked the zoo for feedback on your application? It's a good idea - show's you're keen and gives you pointers for next time.

Ask for feedback, yes. Also, broaden your search - if this kind of thing is really your dream job then look for positions in zoos all over this great land. And maybe across the ditch as well.

I agree on the feedback. Phone them and talk to them.

I do get the impression that lots of people get jobs at the zoo by volunteering there first. It's entirely possible that the person who got the job did so because they were a volunteer and thus known to the people hiring.

Might be worth a shot at any rate.

*hugs* and I'm sure something even more perfect will come along for you.

That's so disappointing.

If you're up to it, call them and ask them why you didn't get the interview. That way, you'll know for next time.

You are NOT destined to work boring but easy office jobs forever. Jobs will suck. Then you'll find better ones. Then you might lose them and end up at sucky jobs again for a while, but there WILL be amazing opportunities for you that will pan out.

Don't give up. You're too good to give up. Have some ice cream and get someone to give you a massage, and then keep putting those applications out there.

Def ask for feedback. I did this for a job I felt I should have gotten to interview for recently and it turned out that one of the "desirable" items were had by a large number of people (certain language skills) so they decided to be stricter on that. They now keep me on their HR records and have asked I get in contact with them if I ever am able to volunteer.

I'm sorry to hear that, that's very disappointing :(

I have the exact same problem. Went for a job I REALLY wanted, didn't hear anything for ages. I rang them & they said they had interviews going but my application was "one of merit". I figure that means I didn't get it so I'm bound to be stuck at shitty Swans. Hang in there
