Veggies!

Well. I thought I'd try the gourmet box because it looked nice, things like fancy lettuce, truss tomatoes and herbs. Unfortunately what I got was just a larger amount of what I've been getting and a couple of things that don't usually come in a box, which kinda defeats the purpose, because 2 people can only eat a certain quantity of veggies, I was expecting the same amount of stuff, but more expensive produce, not just more of the cheaper stuff.

ANYWAY!

I got

1/2 bag Mushrooms
Iceberg Lettuce
bunch Pak Choy
head of Broccoli
1/4 of a Pumpkin
small bag of Bean Sprouts
bag of Beans
1 Avocado
1 Red Capsicum
2 small Cucumbers
7 Gala Apples
3 Pears
4 Bananas
2 Sweet Potatoes
2 Beetroot
6 Mandarines
a bunch of Gourmet Potatoes
1 Red Onion
1 Kiwifruit

Now, I specify "No cucumbers or melons please" with every order, because neither Matt or I eats them. So getting a box like that, especially with cucumbers made me think, "Hrm, maybe they sent me the wrong box." so I e-mailed. Nope, due to winter herbs aren't doing so well (fair enough), no tomatoes was a mistake (I can understand not having truss tomatoes at this time of year but I didn't get ANY tomatoes), and the cucumbers were also a boo-boo. She DID offer me a discount on my next box, which is nice. I might have to order the gourmet box in Summer to see if it's any more exciting, even though surely, even though it's winter they could have found some more expensive, fancy stuff to put in a box like that. *shrug*

Anyone want 2 cucumbers? They'll just end up in the compost if they stay here.

$35 fruit and veg box. $35 is now the minimum order due to petrol price hikes and all that jazz.

Would have preferred more veg and less fruit, but still, not bad.

Bunch of Spring Onions
1/2 bag of Mushrooms
Bag of Beans
Brocolli
1/2 Butternut Pumpkin
1 Zuchinni
8 Bananas
4 Carrots
2 Onions
6 Potatoes
2 Navel Oranges
4 Pears
3 Tomatoes
7 Mandarines
4 Pink Lady Apples
4 Granny Smith Apples

I just made my second order from The Lettuce Shop. Both times I have ordered a simple $30 seasonal fruit & veg box.

Ironically, common Iceberg Lettuce is hideously expensive at the moment, so you won't get it in a seasonal box.

I was impressed with the first box, so decided to order again. The latest box was meant to arrive yesterday afternoon. I waited, and waited. No box. I called them up. Not sure what the issue was but obviously something had cocked up and my box didn't get to me. The woman said she'd get my box to me this morning. Not a problem I say.

Now, I'm not sure if she's added a few extra goodies due to a stuff up or just that they really are that good value. Being seasonal boxes, you'll get your standards like potatoes, onions, carrots, apples, oranges, bananas. But everything else is a surprise - which I quite enjoy.

This order I got in my box (remember, this cost $30, no delivery fee).

6 Bananas
1 bag of Mixed Greens
1 punnet of Cherry Tomatoes
1 bunch of Bok Choy
a head of Broccolli
1 Eggplant
half a Butternut Pumpkin
1 Avocado
2 Valencia Oranges
3 Tomatoes
4 Pink Lady Apples
4 Granny Smith Apples
4 Pears
6 Plums
1 Zucchini
2 Onions
13 small Potatoes
5 Carrots

That teamed with the bulk meat and bulk chicken pack I bought the other day means no grocery shopping for a while. :)
