Shellfish - It's a weird term. I think it applies to any mollusc (but maybe not octopus and squid, seeing as they are shelless molluscs) and crustaceans.

White goods - Apparently this term isn't used in the U.S. White goods are those large, generally white appliances - the fridge, the chest freezer, the washing machine, maybe the drier.

No lamb? - One of the questions is what meat have you eaten apart from cow, pig and poultry. I notice a lot of people don't list lamb. Is lamb a commonplace meat only in Australia or something? I LOVE lamb, especially roasted. *drools*

Tipple - I know that this is an alcoholic drink, although I hardly ever use the word either.

Oh yeah - and aniseed is licorice flavour. ;)

Paul says that I am shellfish when I won't let him go out metal detecting.

Ah! Anise! I should have recognized that. Duh.

Lamb is not overly common here in the US. It's a bit more expensive. I equate it with veal, which I don't eat either. I don't like the thought of eating the cute baby animals, though I am an absolute carnivore otherwise. A bit hypocritical, I suppose. *shrug* We have farms that raise calves for veal near my house and they're disgusting. I've never tried veal and never will. Lamb I have eaten and I didn't like it.

Lamb, mutton, hogget.

I usually just use the word lamb to describe any sheep meat.

I like it at any stage of life however. :)
Smothered in mint sauce. *drools more*

I like veal too but it's pricey here, lamb isn't any more expensive than beef or pork in Oz.

Lamb...*shudder*

I do like veal, if I don't think about what I'm eating. Lamb in any stage just tastes off to me though. That's probably because I didn't grow up eating it at all. Maybe I've just never had it prepared right.

your right about shellfish..in food terms it means oysters crab shrimp lobster...things that have shells...in biology terms..its what your other post said..I think.

most Americans think of white goods as towels and bedding and such..things that used to only come in WHITE.

lamb is a turnoff word for most Americans..thanks to people like PETA and their anti veil stuff..though I LOVE veiner snitzel *so misspelled* and my mum made roast lamb for Easter last year.

Tiplle is new to me.

and yah..anise is nasty icky licorice flavor *hates black licorice flavor* saw a bag of nothing but BLACK jelly beans in the store..ew

But veal is cow, not sheep.

Hehe, at the moment I'm wolfing my through a large bag of Darrel Lea licorice. It's the best ever licorice on earth.

just cos I like to show off...

'tis "Vienna schnitzel". I just ate one, actually! (yes, very yummy :)

I didn't know how it was spelt for years, because the way my Mum says it it sounds like vee-nish-nits-el. So when I finally learned, I remembered. ;)

Lamb is GOOD!!

I LOVE Lamb..:) Though I suspect given the size of the lamb legs you buy that they are more... sheep than lamb!!

I hate shellfish.. I will not eat it, but I do buy it for my fish to eat. My Green spot puffers will only eat cockels!

I LOVE Aniseed..;) Yummy!!

Lambs pretty big here as well... I was surprised not to see it there. I don't like it anyway :)

It took me ages to work out what white goods were!

I don't specifically use the word tipple, but it seems everyone else does :) Is aniseed not a flavour in the US or something??

I *adore* lamb, I simply forgot about it when I was filling out the meme lol! It's definitely not as common in the U.S. as it is in other places.

Austrailia does/did (sorry, not up on my agricultural exports, but I know historically, anyway) a lot of sheep farming.
The US was never big on sheep farming.

So that, I think would explain why lamb is a staple in your country, but not in mine. :)

Lamb is readily available in my part of the US (North central Florida), but it is pricier than beef, so it's only common during the Easter season.
Mutton is virtually impossible to find here... sheep farming never caught on in the US (it's way too hot for sheep in most of this country...)

Too hot?!

Bah, we manage to have MILLIONS of sheep around in the middle of the country and it easily gets over 40C often in summer. :p
