Just been reading a lot about how it's unusually hot in the U.S. right now.

Well, people say it's "hot". Hot it seems is a slightly chilly 21C. At that temperature I have a jumper on and am getting cold.

Apparently 80F is scorching. Turns out that's a balmy 26C, pretty much ideal operating temperature for me.

Right now here in Australia, we're averaging over 35C (95F) and often we top 38C, which is 100F.

Then again I was talking to a woman from New Zealand who said 18C was perfect weather. By that time I have a heater running. If it gets too much below 16C (61F), I stay in bed under the covers and refuse to go outside.

The majority of the US is fairly temperate, with highs in the summer averaging 80F. During the winter, temperatures in the freezing range (below 32F or 0C) are quite common. So, to them, winter temps in the 60's and 70's is downright hot.
I, being in Florida, am used to much higher temps. Summer temps are often low-mid 90's F, and winter temps vary widely. Today the high was 81F (roughly 27C) which is not terribly unusual for Florida in December.
