Just been reading a lot about how it's unusually hot in the U.S. right now.

Well, people say it's "hot". Hot it seems is a slightly chilly 21C. At that temperature I have a jumper on and am getting cold.

Apparently 80F is scorching. Turns out that's a balmy 26C, pretty much ideal operating temperature for me.

Right now here in Australia, we're averaging over 35C (95F) and often we top 38C, which is 100F.

Then again I was talking to a woman from New Zealand who said 18C was perfect weather. By that time I have a heater running. If it gets too much below 16C (61F), I stay in bed under the covers and refuse to go outside.

I think it's fascinating how subjective heat and comfort can be, despite the fact that bodies all operate at the same temperature.

I reckon about 24C is comfortable. I can't really handle it when it gets below 9C, though.

I'd kill for 24C right now.

When I was in Japan, I was complaining about the weather (it was about 12C). One of the Candian teacher said "What are you complaining about, this is warm where I come from!)

I know a danish man that loves the weather here , I hate the heat and humidity , especially the humidity today and I'd prefer it nice and temperate with a nice breeze, some temp like 23C or a bit lower .

Where is the rain?

Europeans seem to really go for the heat and humidity. We had 2 Finnish guys rock up at Broome last March (end of the wet season, didn't start getting cool until April).

They were there 2 weeks and spent each day lugging scopes and cameras over plains and mudflats and through mangrove forests and pindan scrub. They'd come back grotty and sunburned and with 1000 or so photos and fall into bed, only to get up at 4:30am the next day and do it all again!

The majority of the US is fairly temperate, with highs in the summer averaging 80F. During the winter, temperatures in the freezing range (below 32F or 0C) are quite common. So, to them, winter temps in the 60's and 70's is downright hot.
I, being in Florida, am used to much higher temps. Summer temps are often low-mid 90's F, and winter temps vary widely. Today the high was 81F (roughly 27C) which is not terribly unusual for Florida in December.

21oC for me is cold, anything 25oC and below and you start to see me with a jacket.

30oC is when I feel fantastic and happy. Will often find me at the beach or outdoors doing stuff. And with rain and humidity, even better as long as I do get to see the sun. ^_^

Anything below 20oC, only encourages me to steal all the blankets and not get out of bed.

Below 10oC, I am firmly entrenched in bed unless there's a damn good reason to get out of it.

And just recently, Moscow was having a heatwave of 7oC.

You sound exactly like me. The air-con at work is set to what I think is a frigid 23 degrees, and you find me with a jacket, and occasionally a cardigan on as well. Hell, I won't even go swimming unless it's 35 degrees outside.

I also like it humid.

I find air-con often feels colder than ambient temperature.

If it's 24 outside I can be comfy in a skirt and short sleeves. But 24 in air-con and I'm getting chilly.

It's probably a combo of having no sun on me and the blowiness of air-con.

Oh yes, that's me.

I find the water at Perth beaches cold in summer, hence I don't go in until it hits the mid thirties whereas in the tropics, I was alwas in the water and I was never worried about the water being cold until I was 17 when I came to Perth for boarding school. The first rude shock was enough to instil that fear.

Well, 21 C in the middle of what is now winter over here IS pretty hot, relatively speaking. However if it were July, 21 C would seem near freezing. I'm not in the US, but I lived accross the river from Detroit most of my life. Here in Newfoundland it's cold 8 months out of the year, today was 5 C and that was considered "mild" for this time of year.

I love posts about the weather, so I had to comment :) I'm such a dork that I did a specialization in climatology for my BSc, lol.

Oh yeah, and 24 C is my perfect temperature. I do well with temps anywhere from 10 C to 28 C, but once we start going over 30 C I need my fan and some cold drinks. I tend to prefer cold. This summer while sleeping in 42 C heat at night (in Quebec) nearly killed me.

It's 60F in Boston these days (it should be more like 2C) and everyone is wondering what the hell is going on. The tv news idiots are moping that it doesn't "feel like the Holidays" because it's too warm. I'm with you, 80F is just about perfect. Everybody on my friends list (United Statesians) complains when it gets above 70F

From: [identity profile] stefanina.livejournal.com
Heh, not me. 70F is the low end of reasonable, and I far prefer 80F...LOL

On the summer solstice (whoops, I mean Winter solstice) I posted a poll, which revealed that 2/3 of the people on my friends list are clinically insane, and prefer being cold to being hot:

I think (or hope) it's mostly just a case of people reacting over the obvious climate changes. Hopefully it will make people realise that we need to work harder for a more environmentally friendly society.

I like going abroad, but I don't like too much heat and humidity - I hate sweating! Swedish summer is perfect. The air is dry and it's usually around 25 degrees, sometimes up to 30 but that's a bit too warm for us, lol. When it drops below 15, I hide inside. Except when there's snow, I love snow. But we rarely get any here, just a whole lot of rain most of the year :(
