It's official
Nov. 29th, 2004 10:25 amBy mid 2006 smoking will BANNED in all indoor venues in Australia.
*dances around* I WILL be throwing a party when that happens.
Why so long to wait I have no idea but better late than never I guess. I just hope I don't get cancer in that year and a half.

Nerr, nerr
Date: 2004-11-29 11:22 am (UTC)HA!
Then I would win.
In the meantime, yes, I quit. I quit, whilst railing against the unfairness of it all.
Also in defence of some smokers, who aren't necessarily ALL horrible evil people with no consideration for non-smokers... I have never, ever lit up at a table/chair/whatever that I've sat down at unless I see everybody at that table smoking. Or I ask them first. If someone sits down next to me, however, and I'm smoking, they're accepting their passive habit so far as I'm concerned.
Interesting other smoking fact about MOI, since it's ALL ABOUT MOI - I went to Missy Higgins last weekend at the Fly By Nightclub and filled out one of their questionnaires about their "no smoking" policy. I thoroughly enjoyed screwing with their statistics by saying "yes I smoke and yes I would be more inclined to go to a venue that's non-smoking to watch a live band" ;) Hypocritical, but true.
*bows*
I now return your Gemfyre limelight to the rest of the people who'd like to get a post in edgewise.
Re: Nerr, nerr
Date: 2004-11-29 11:25 am (UTC)Though I should say ex-smoker. One hour ;)
Re: Nerr, nerr
Date: 2004-11-29 12:00 pm (UTC)I do know plenty of polite smokers however. It always seems to be the assholes who troll my anti-smoking community (well I guess, a polite smoker WOULDN'T troll such a community would they?)
Re: Nerr, nerr
Date: 2004-11-29 01:11 pm (UTC)In the meantime, if you choose to go to a smoking venue and you're a non-smoker... well... I don't think you can pout and cry about catching cancer if you're gonna hang out in a smoky pub once a week. If you're that worried about getting cancer in the next 1.5 years, then you'd stay away from venues of high exposure like that. Sorry, harsh, but true. Nobody's twisting your arm to go to closed-in smoking spaces like that.
Re: Nerr, nerr
Date: 2004-11-29 01:14 pm (UTC)So I will continue to go, but I do 99% of my bitching in the appropriate communities. ;)
