It's official
Nov. 29th, 2004 10:25 amBy mid 2006 smoking will BANNED in all indoor venues in Australia.
*dances around* I WILL be throwing a party when that happens.
Why so long to wait I have no idea but better late than never I guess. I just hope I don't get cancer in that year and a half.

Date: 2004-11-29 02:54 am (UTC)about 3 months ago I went to the PO on adelaide tce near Irwin st (i think) and there are offices upstairs for the PO that arent' related to the PO.
I just happened to be leaving at the time of the smoko break. I was swamped by about 6 people running past me as I exited the PO. they stood out the doors on the path smoking. I had to choke past them. I couldn't understand why these people couldn't walk down the street a bit further to where there was a nice open park....

Date: 2004-11-29 03:05 am (UTC)As for the delay, it's to phase the changes in. The only reason for that is so the pubs and clubs and the guys setting the rules could cooperate. the ama wanted it brought in now. the pubs and clubs realise it's needed but don't want to just drop it in now. i like that the first change is that they remove smokers from a meter from the bar. yeah, like that stops the smoke travelling to behind the bar. the whole point of the changes is to protect the staff, as well as the non smoking customers, but primarialy the staff, which is good but it's a pity the ama bow so much to pressure from other things, as i'd love to see them stand behind a decision and force the govt to actually make the hard decisions.
Having said that, WA will be the second state (behind Tasmania) to have no smoking indoors when it finally comes in, while the others are phasing it in slower.
