No animal sees humans as prey.  Humans are a threat often, and are duly attacked, or the animal mistakes them for something that IS food (ala the surfer looking like a seal).  But animals don't go out of their way to eat humans.

Here's a lovely tale of a guy who goes out to hunt elk (apparently in the U.S. wilderness areas are places where you can go out and shoot things to feel macho).  Bears are attracted to the remains of hunts.  A mother bear and cub came across him.  Of course the mother bear attacks.

First he runs - so of course the bear gives chase.  Then he fights, proving to the bear that he IS a threat.  Bear takes a few good chunks out of him then runs off.  He grabs his gun and shoots charging bear.  Leaving a cub orphaned (the show fails to mention this).  If he had just dropped and stayed still the bear would probably have left him, but no.

Grrr.

I'm curious on your view of hunting in order to protect property. For example on a farm you need to shoot emus and kangaroos because they destroy thousands of dollars of grain and barley a year, destroy fences (sometimes allowing your sheep to get out into the wheat fields, yay *more* damage) and electric fences do not stop them really. Plus electric fences are very hard to keep maintained.
Farmers who do not hunt these pests regularly can and have gone bankrupt.

Sorry, I should say, they destroy thousands of dollars even when you'r actively keeping them off your property. Unchecked, they can cost you tens of thousands.

That is not hunting. That is pest control! And you have to have a special permit for that. Plus all farmers I know don't exactly take joy in it.
