Time Loops

So, I watched the first Terminator movie again today (will be watching T2 tonight) and I noticed something.

Kyle says a few things that imply that the time loop of the story (Kyle being John's father) was already established.

He mentions that Sarah and John were in hiding BEFORE the war. Now, why would they be in hiding unless Sarah already knew there was going to be a war and John would be an important figure in it and needed protection and training for his role?

Also, after telling Sarah that John gave him a photo of her, he says "I didn't know why at the time." Of course, John must have already known that Kyle would have to be the one sent back in time to complete the loop and become his father. But perhaps he felt that Kyle couldn't be told about his role. He had to volunteer for some reason, and that reason was the photo of Sarah.

This realisation actually makes the whole story make MORE sense to me, believe it or not.

I've never watched the first Terminator. I really should since I've seen T2 over50 times and can recite the words! I haven't seen 3 either.. perhaps I should.

3 has a bummer ending and overall is just inferior and most people would like to forget it exists. But they do use the timeline of 3 in the 4th movie.

The first movie has much cheese early eightieness about it, but it's still a great film - and you get to meet Kyle.

I think the metacritic scores sum up how I feel about the films - I actually preferred 3 to 4.

See, I always assumed the time loop from the first. Kyle tells Sarah that she taught John how to fight the terminators, and then John taught everyone else, including Kyle. Well, Kyle taught Sarah how to fight the terminators. Time loop.

So Kyle's in the new one? I always like him best - that just might get me to watch. ;)

Yeah after watching the first two again I still find myself caring more about Kyle than John.

He has a large role in the new film indeedy. But he is played by the guy that plays Chekov in the new Star Trek movie. (He does do a pretty good job though).
