Ours decided to be stupid and STAY stupid after the tub had filled with water - making all the clothes thoroughly soaked in soapy water.

Previously when the power has gone out the washing machine flickers, but it usually works once you press the power button. Today it stopped working altogether.

I hand rinsed the clothes (but they are still a bit soapy) and hung them out still dripping (lucky it's a hot day, they're almost dry already).

But now I have a washing machine with it's tub full of water and no way to drain it. And dammit, I need a washing machine!! I paid $450 for this one not a year ago and already it's borked.

Not impressed.

We had a similar problem with ours, I honestly don't know the details, washing machine repairs are not my department! I know something had been blocked up with bits out of the washing though (bits of hay in our case, lol) but that's all.

Yeah, ours looks like an electrical problem, not a mechanical one. Possibly caused by being knocked around when we moved.

Hmm, Sounds like the drain timer isn't working. Is the machine electronically controlled? If so, it could be the electronics, or the timer could be physically damaged.
When power goes out, it does fluctuate quite a bit, which is bad for electronics and appliances.

check your drip dry button. its one of those simple but obvious things, but please don't laugh at me. We've found the cats we're babysitting have worked out how to knock buttons on and off and steve has had a similar problem where he knocked the button accidentally. when drip dry is on, the bowl fills but doesn't drain, to fix it you just switch it back to normal.

Don't HAVE a drip dry button.

What happens is that at some stage during the cycle, it just stops working and everything just flickers. Now in the past after a few tries it'd come back to life after pressing the start button and I'd just continue the cycle where it left off - I couldn't do that this time, it just stayed flickery.

ok. it could be that something is wrong with the pump, it is something small but repairers will charge he arse because they have to get under the washing machine. meanwhile you may need to manually tip you machine on its side to get the water out. often though it is just a hose is our somewhere or something silly (i read repairers reports because sometimes, when compared to what our staff write down, hey get amusing)

Does not a year ago mean it is still under some sort of warranty? Or was it second hand?

Second hand unfortunately.

Did you try your fuse box?

My dryer does the same thing when the power goes out while it is running and I have to go to my fuse box and reset the switch for the dryer.

The power didn't actually go out this time. It just spat the dummy randomly. Will have to investigate if the fusebox has individual switches. Thing is, our chest freezer is on the same point and it seems fine.

Hm, I know nothing about washers, but maybe you could siphon the water out with a hose instead of trying to tip the thing over (would be damn heavy). Next time get a shiny new one. They aren't that expensive. I'm sure mine was only about $500 after water wise rebate and it's a lovely front loader that has gone 3 years and 3 relocations so far with no hassles.

I think I'll just bucket most of it out and put it on the garden.
