25 Things Meme
Feb. 11th, 2009 07:34 am1. I have worn odd earrings as my usual everyday earwear since I was 14 (two studs in one lobe, two sleepers in the other). Interesting thing is that only one person has commented on it in all this time - and that was a little girl when I used to work as a checkout chick.
2. I am terribly misanthropic. On the whole I think humans suck and other species have more of a right to exist than we do. However, this changes on the individual level.
3. I used to be able to write prolifically. Over the last ten years or so I've still had the ideas in my head, but I can't seem to get them out of there.
4. I am obsessed with disasters, both natural and man-made, although I prefer natural disasters because I like seeing nature kick our asses.
5. I have never broken a bone.
6. The most serious injury I've ever had is a dislocated knee - and that has happened at least ten times in my life, some instances worse than others.
7. I have only had two surgeries and both were run-of-the-mill. My tonsils (and possibly my adenoids, it's alarming that my own mother doesn't remember!) came out when I was 5 (I remember the hospital stay, but I don't recall the operation or any pain afterwards). The second was all four of my impacted wisdom teeth when I was... 23 I think.
8. Wastefullness REALLY annoys me. So much that I seriously get depressed over it. It makes me want to cry how most humans so flippantly contribute to the downfall of the planet. I think about EVERYTHING I do and it's potential impact.
9. I went to ballroom dancing classes for 4 years during high school and won a few low-level medals. I would love to go back, but I'm worried about my knee.
10. My favourite dance is the jive.
11. I love love LOVE road trips. During my childhood every year my family would take a holiday and we would get to our destination by car - that destination may have been as close as Rockingham or as far as Broome or Melbourne. You see so much on the way, it's so much better than just jumping in a plane.
12. I have kept records of every bird I have seen every day since April in 2005.
13. I once owned over 500 My Little Ponies.
14. I would love to experience a proper "White Christmas" with all the trimmings in the U.S.A. I just hope I can deal with the cold.
15. I love roller coasters and thrill rides, and would love to travel to places that have decent rides - Perth is pretty sparse for rides.
16. In the 9 months when I lived and worked in Broome, I didn't get sick once, not even a sniffle.
17. All the jobs I have enjoyed most have paid the least (or not at all). However, my job in Narrogin paid more than my current job and I enjoyed it better - probably because it was in my field.
18. I find it very hard to blow my own horn, and I seriously lack charisma. I have no idea how to "make friends and influence people".
19. When I was a kid I had an imaginary friend named Brinky. My parents would always call him Blinky which annoyed the shit out of me. Brinky was so small that if you put your thumb and forefinger together - he could walk between them and the gap would be cavernous to him.
20. I believe in the multiverse - that is, I believe everything is possible and is occuring, just maybe not in our world.
21. I will try any food once. My rule for meat is that I will try it if it's not endangered (for my own definition of endangered - which encompasses more species than the IUCN definition), or a cat, because I feel a kinship with cats.
22. Computers always seem to break inexplicably around me.
23. I used to get 100% on most tests in school when I was a kid. That all changed after we moved house. I don't know if it was the move, the new schools, the teachers, or the fact that I was just becoming an angsty teenager.
24. I like cooking things from scratch. Often I'll try to cook certain things from their basics at least once. Stock is really easy and I never buy pre-made stuff. Pasta is surprisingly easy too and I think I'll make it a lot more from now on. Pastry is a bitch though - I'd rather buy the frozen sheets from the shops.
25. I think the internet is the best thing and the worst thing to have happened to me.

Date: 2009-02-11 12:11 am (UTC)#8 - Amen. I really wish the U.S.A. as a whole had tighter rules & regulations on pollution & waste. I've started to gear my artwork towards recycled art, using colored cardboard boxes to make designs for recycled greeting cards, etc.
#13 - Very envious here :D
#14 - It only looks nice. My suggestion is to rent a place with central heating and a fireplace and just admire the snow from the inside :D
#20 - Yes!
#25 - I hear you totally.
