A year and a half ago Matt and I visited Victoria and spent a week at Narbethong, investigating Lake Mountain, Marysville, Healesville, south to Yellingbo, north to Yea and west to Kinglake.

When we there the country was blanketed in snow and fog.

Now it's on fire. It's kinda sad to think. But knowing the Australian bush and it's need for fire, I know it will bounce back bigger and better.

I'm worried. I have a friend who lives on the edge of the Bunyip forest. She has been fighting embers most of the night. Other people on my forums are affected by it too. It sounds really scary. :(

i saw on abc today that about 50 people are either confirmed dead or unaccounted for. ABC is doing a special mid day bulletin

there is only one person I know directly that may be in the area and the family of another.

Well, they think there's only a few buildings left in Marysville now. Really sad - those are local day-trip places for me.

Long time no see (Hi from Rennigeb)

Hello stranger! Been a while. Glad to hear you and Matt are still a couple. Shows he has taste and wisdom :)

What's happened to me the past many years? Hmmm.. moved to Brisbane, got married and now a father of twin boys! They turned 3 last November.

Just a quick nudge to say hi.

My gosh, hello! Long time no see.

Hrm, I'm still with Matt, have worked in Broome and Narrogin as well as Perth. Still don't have a steady job, desperately would like to live in Broome again.

Still renting (looking to buy when we have the money), no plans for marriage or children.

the bush is supposed to get smaller fires, more frequently. It can't handle the big ones nearly as well as we'd hope :( plus, more introduced species will take the opputyunity to invade, and think of all the dead native wildlife :(
*sniffles* i'd better shut up now :(

Agreed. It has been a little bigger and hotter than most normal fires. I hear they managed to get the Helmeted Honeyeaters and Orange-bellied Parrots out of Healesville Sanctuary and down to Melbourne Zoo in time, and Yellingbo, the last stronghold of the Helmeted Honeyeater has been spared. OBPs aren't so much of a concern seeing as they hang out in coastal heath on the mainland.
