gemfyre: (80s MP3)

Just picked up a cassette holder with about 30 cassettes in it - am I the ONLY person in the world who still uses cassettes? I guess I feel the way about cassettes how the old vinyl people feel about vinyl. I wish there was an easy to convert cassette to MP3, they've done it for records. I have LOADS of music stuck on cassette that I'd love to get into the digital world if I could.

Anyway, these cassettes, there's like 5 AC/DC albums, Trash by Alice Cooper, Kiss greatest hits, 2 ZZ Top albums, Bad by Michael Jackson, 2 Roxette albums, it's a bloody awesome collection. And they were just going to throw it in the bin.

*hugs her rescued cassettes*

Ooh! There is an easy way to convert cassettes to VHS, I've done so myself and the mp3s ended up in stereo sound in awesome quality. I've been into converting my old cassettes to mp3 lately :)

All you need is a double-ended cable with two of the same type of ends that can plug into headphone jacks, and something that plays casettes (I use a walkman). One end goes into the casette player and the other goes into your computer's input/line in.

The program to record once you're hooked up is free, its called Audacity. If you want more info send me an email (mistystargazer@shaw.ca) or an IM (AIM: MistyEstelle) and I'll explain in more detail :D

Ohhhhhh, but there IS a way to convert! It's time-consuming, but pretty easy, and not HORRIBLY expensive.

Actual convertor equipment (I've used something like the USB one - easy!

I still love cassettes, I play them in my car all the time, even when friends try to insist that they want their ipods on: "my car, my rules, we're listening to my old tapes" :)

I still use tapes for some 90s rave music that isn't on CD, but generally I've converted to MP3, for storage reasons if nothing else.

Personally, I wouldn't bother converting from tape unless it was something rare, I'd download but that's me! I don't think the sound quality would be worth it, but am prepared to be proved wrong!

I scrolled back to find this entry because I have found a whole pile of cassettes in my spare room - an eclectic mix (both hubby's and my tastes are sooo different) of predominantly pre-recorded tapes, but a few copies/mixed tapes too. As well there is a three drawer tape holder (holds 36) in good condition and two head cleaning cassettes as well.

I remembered you liked to rescue tapes, so I thought I'd give you first refusal. If you're interested, either comment, PM me via LJ or email me princesskessie(at)gmail(dot)com with your email addy, and I'll email you a copy of the list. If you want any, I can arrange to drop them off to you (since you're relatively local, and not down south anymore!) sometime in the next couple of weeks.

They're probably not exactly to your taste, though (and what's left will go on Freecycle with a whole pile of other stuff) :B

I'll certainly look through a list and see if there's anything I like. :) I've been known to buy some weird stuff for 50c from op-shops.
