I hope I'm not speaking too soon.

A few weeks ago I e-mailed Caversham Wildlife Park asking them where to look for positions available to work there. Woman e-mailed back and said, "Send us your resume! We'll keep it on file!" So I did.

Today I got a call from them, and I have an interview on Wednesday morning at 10:15. I feel terrible leaving my boss in the lurch as we're TERRIBLY busy this week, but I'm gonna have to just come down with gastro or something. ;)

Now, I didn't apply for any position here. They called me!

Can I say *squee* now?

I can't believe I saw the news on FB before here. My guess that the news was small furry animal-related was obviously correct :-)

OMG. I hate to be the dumb American asking the Dumb American Question but I love animals so you'll just have to pardon me...but is this a wildlife park with around the world animals or mostly Australian animals? Man oh man if I had perfect health I'd be in AU in a heartbeat working at a rehabilitation center for roos. ^^

Generally in Australia a wildlife park indicates mainly Aussie animals - although there are a few exotics. Caversham used to have a lot of farm type animals too but I don't think they do anymore. They're not as preferable as the actual zoo - which has breeding programs and stuff like that. Caversham seems to be around mainly to cater for Japanese tourists - who seem to love seeing white kangaroos and possums and wombats and hold koalas, so Caversham panders to that. It's as bad as the white tiger thing. But I'd rather work there than for a legal firm (which is what I'm doing now).

Caversham still have a bunch of farm animals, but it's not the main point of the exhibit, and they're kind of tucked away, out the back (i.e. aside from advertising 'camel rides!' they don't really advertise the big farm animals - but they have even more now than they used to at the old place). I think they keep them more for schools / primary schools now than anything.
