gemfyre: (Lil pissed off)

I came home and was greeted by Bella at the gate. Where's Lil? I thought. I found her on the raised part of the yard. She was kinda crouching and not responding when I called her. I went up to her and called her and she didn't budge. I notice some sloppy poo behind her and get a bit worried. SoI feed Bella, grab some toast to keep the worms away and take Lil to the vet. As soon as I put the carrier near her she got up and walked into it - weird cat.

I am grateful that I live so close to an emergency vet that charges regular prices until 9pm. She had some bloodwork done, and all up the trip cost almost $300.

Her issue is probably either kidney failure - common in older cats, or hyperthyroidism - which she shows a lot of the symptoms of. No idea how much it will cost to treat if that is the problem - but hopefully it resolves her toileting issues.

All cats are pricey cats. When Cally was facing possible kidney failure I was so glad--albeit much poorer--when they finally found bacteria. It was amazing how quickly she recovered with the right antibiotics.

Poor Miss Bella. :( There are a lot of cats with hyperthyroidism in this area, particularly older kitties, and the medication is reasonably priced and improves their quality of life tremendously. They need pretty frequent blood tests, but a good vet can get most cats with hyperthyroid back on track without a lot of tinkering with medication levels.

most likely hyperthyroidism. Which is treatable - but expensive to treat.

do they nuke cats thyroids the same way they nuked mine?

It is one of the available treatments. The best and of course, the most expensive.
