My gosh getting around without crutches is tiring.

Anyone know, if I lay on my stomach and curl my leg up, which muscle am I using?
And as a follow on - what are some good exercises to strengthen my quads and calf muscles?

For the first question, mainly your quad.

For the other questions I shall direct you to my favorite website at the minute... for the calves check out this

And for quads/hamstrings try some of these out

I would start with the bodyweight only exercises.

Hasn't your physio given you stuff to do?

Just to clarify, where it says 'barbell' and has pics of guys with weights... just do the movement without the weight. Also, probably would be good to have a gym membership so you have access to the leg extension/leg curl machines. They are a nice safe way to strengthen the muscles.

She's given me a few things to do, mainly focusing on getting my leg straight and healing the bruising. We just started getting me on an exercise bike.

I think I want to move faster than her on this walking business though. Sure, walking will get easier once I can straighten my leg, but I'd love to get off the crutches asap, even if it means limping.

Hm sounds like lots of gentle stretching is in order. The bike will be good for you. Joints are usually slow to heal =)be patient!
