How's this for a resolution?

Mid next year I am going to Costa Rica. I have found the perfect birding tour to go on, which also covers some beaches and has 2 nights at Volcan Arenal Observatory.

I have to budget at least $10,000. Preferably a little more for price rises and extra expenses.

I am not looking forward to the flights. Flying to KL was hell enough, a flight to the U.S. will be awful I'm sure, maybe if I can raise the cash I can get a seat slightly better than economy class - although it's not really the seats that are the big problem, it's the air inside high flying aircraft.

The flights to and from Costa Rica seem to go via Los Angeles and/or Dallas and/or Miami. Man, if I'm going to be flying to those cities I want to VISIT those cities! Ah well.

If anyone is seriously interested in a birding tour of Costa Rica in July next year let me know, there's a big extra fee for a single person. :(

Costa Rica is supposed to be amazing.

I have a friend who is from there who would be happy to show you around for a bit. Unfortunately he will be in Europe next July (which is where I will be). However if you like I can ask him for suggestions on cool stuff/general advice if you like.

I got myself a Lonely Planet guide and have found a birding tour that seems to be cover most of the country as well Volcan Arenal - which I really want to see. The useful thing about being on a set tour is not having to worry about lodgings, transport or food as it's already organised.

Seriously, the flight from Brisbane, to Auckland was fine, but from Auckland to LA is pure hell. I don't mind flying so much, but it's just the time. I get so antsy, even with the stuff I had with me. $1000 to pay for that. The airlines have it made.
