The day I was born was also the day Typhoon Tip, the largest tropical storm recorded, reached it's peak.

By the way, did you know that Cyclone Tracy was the smallest (although certainly not the weakest) tropical storm recorded?

Neither, it's a handphone.

Handphone? Now that's just weird. I've never come across any kind of phone that was not operated by or held in your hand.

Yeah, but that's what it's called in Indonesia/Malaysia/etc. Handphone, abbreviated to hp (pronounced "hah-peh"). I wish it would catch on over here, I prefer it. :P

because the network is divided into cells, with the phonecalls handled by the nearest tower, and passed to the next tower if you move.

yes, the tower in control of that "cell" - yes, it makes sense that they are in different cells, but how is that different from the "exchanges" landlines go through?

one is hardwired, and one is a roaming, area-effect connectivity?

i meant in that they are both phones that go through cells

but one is a hardwired exchange, and the other a wireless footprint

yes, i understand that difference, I'm making a point that there is no difference between a harwired exchange "cell" and a wireless "cell" in that they are both "cells" and therefore the term "cell phone" for a mobile is even more stupid than most people think.

but a mobile phone could also applie to satellite phones, hand-free sets, etc
