More about this Broome thing
Oct. 27th, 2007 02:36 pmMy plan is to go up there in April because that is when the waders are departing - an absolutely awesome sight to witness. It's also before it gets too busy in town, but the weather is getting nicer every day.
I'm intending to stay a week/week and a half, probably spending half of that at Broome Bird Observatory and half at a nice place in town. The first half of the trip will be birding and the second half will be more focused on Brooming. Hopefully the wet season will be good, which means the lakes will be full - I'm going to take a lakes tour out of BBO to see those lakes with water in them - something I didn't get to do while I worked there due to a failed wet season. I also want to be up there on a Sunday so I can go to the markets.
I think hiring a 4WD will be the way to go. I'd visit places like Willie & Barred creeks, Coconut Wells and various little spots I know about that are only 4WD accessible.
Extra people to share costs would be awesome - but be warned, I intend to heavily bird for at least a few days. If you want to experience some of the awesome birdlife/wildlife/scenery of the area you'll be getting a free tourguide with me. ;) For the lakes tour I will be coughing up money to the BBO to go on - it costs around $120 I think and is a full day's birding at places that you need a permit to visit.
A few days lazing in various beaches (Town Beach, Cable Beach) is also on the cards.
If you're seriously interested in coming along I'll keep you posted on costs/developments.
