Echidna!

Yes it was an echidna.

I was waiting for someone to say anenome and I wasn't disappointed. We also had hedgehog and cactus as guesses.

Poor echidnae; it looks like they get little echidna dandruffs.

There were a bunch of other photos (these were found on the work computer) and all kinds of seeds and leaves and dirt were caught among the spines. I guess you get that when you dig in the dirt and wander through undergrowth and can't easily clean your back. :)
