Blasts from the past
Dec. 10th, 2006 02:34 pmDoes anyone remember these?
Pioneer World, Armadale - I know there is Pioneer Village there now, but I'm not sure if it's the same.
Dizzy Lamb Park, Wanneroo - It's still there, but I believe it's closed and fallen into disrepair.
Atlantis, Two Rocks - The Neptune statue is still there and I remember it used to freak me out. You can crawl through a hole in the fence and explore the place, the brick walls surrounding the pools remain. I vaguely remember going here when I was really little, mum promised me she'd take me there again because she could get cheap tickets, but it closed before we ever got there again. :(
Action Park, Mirrabooka - I remember an ad with an Afro-American guy advertising it and a mountain like structure with water slides on it.
El Caballo Blanco, Wooroloo - It's now a resort. It used to have a chair lift and a toboggan and water slides and of course, the performing Lipazzaner horses.
It's A Small World, West Perth - Is this place still around? I recall seeing the sign pointing to it on the road to King's Park. I LOVED this place when I was a little kid.
Castle Fun Park - I think this was down Mandurah way?
Ascot Water Playground
Bullens Lion Park - Where was this? I remember my uncle fed something to a camel and it swallowed his entire arm! Don't worry, he got his arm back intact, but covered in camel goo.
Castledare, near Kent Street Weir - What is here exactly? Just a minature train?
Kalamunda Wet & Wild - This is still operational, but it's heyday has come and gone.
Fat Cat's B'day at the Entertainment Centre - I remember one year there was a character that scared the crap out of me. I also loved the green glowie sticks I always got there. I'd come home and hide under the bed covers to watch it glow.
Christmas Pageants when they were still in daylight and up the northern end of the city - heh, this year they probably were again due to daylight savings.
Okay, that'll do for now. :)

Date: 2006-12-10 07:36 am (UTC)WOW I have very vaugue memories of Atlantis, I have a toy dolphin from there (oddly it has a tag on it still). I loved the horses at El Caballo Blanco, they were stunning!!
DAMN I was thinking of Its a Small World a few months ago, Im so sad its gone :(
I think Castle Fun Park is still around, maybe its an animal park now??
Castledare has a mini railway and I think they still do markets or fairs etc there.
Does anyone remember Pizza Show Time???? I think it was on Hay or Murray St in the city, it was a theatre restaurant (lots of kids parties) with BIG puppets and ppl dressed up as characters similiar to goofy?????????

Date: 2006-12-10 07:42 am (UTC)You'd go and have dinner, restaurant style, but you'd watch a live theatre show while you were there.
It was down North Perth, Mt. Lawley way.
this one?

Date: 2006-12-10 07:56 am (UTC)Yes, I have photos of me there as a kid :)
Dizzy Lamb Park, Wanneroo - It's still there, but I believe it's closed and fallen into disrepair.
I remember it, but I don't think I ever went. Was that in Wanneroo? What was the one down towards Rockingham, then?
Atlantis, Two Rocks -
Yes!! Again, I have pics. We went there when Nanna and Granddad visited (that's how long ago... I was 5 when Granddad died. And he lived in England and it was a long illness.) I distinctly remember a pic of me and Nanna sitting in front of Rolf Harris's giant head.
Action Park, Mirrabooka - I remember an ad with an Afro-American guy advertising it and a mountain like structure with water slides on it.
Nope.
El Caballo Blanco, Wooroloo - It's now a resort. It used to have a chair lift and a toboggan and water slides and of course, the performing Lipazzaner horses.
Yes, I remember the ads mostly, funnily enough.
It's A Small World, West Perth - Is this place still around? I recall seeing the sign pointing to it on the road to King's Park. I LOVED this place when I was a little kid.
Nope.
Castle Fun Park - I think this was down Mandurah way?
Maybe that's the one I was thinking of above?
Ascot Water Playground
Could never forget that. I was so sad when it closed. In primary school we had an end of term fun day there every year--the whole school.
Bullens Lion Park - Where was this? I remember my uncle fed something to a camel and it swallowed his entire arm! Don't worry, he got his arm back intact, but covered in camel goo.
Nope.
Castledare, near Kent Street Weir - What is here exactly? Just a minature train?
Nope.
Kalamunda Wet & Wild - This is still operational, but it's heyday has come and gone.
Yep. And the rollerskating rink!
Fat Cat's B'day at the Entertainment Centre - I remember one year there was a character that scared the crap out of me. I also loved the green glowie sticks I always got there. I'd come home and hide under the bed covers to watch it glow.
Yes! And he was always turning seven.
Also, Caversham Wildlife Park (was so sad and angry when I heard about the fire :( before it moved into Whiteman Park. Another place we went when my Granddad visited because there was a cockatoo there who always used to say "hello George!" and Mum wanted to play a joke on him, so she sat him in front of the cage without warning him. (and the funny thing is, about ten years later, George turned out to be a girl, had some babies and didn't feel like talking anymore!)
And Balladong Farm! Though that's still operational, I hope.

Date: 2006-12-10 09:02 am (UTC)The skating rink at Kalamunda is no more. :(
Fire at Caversham? When? The new version of the wildlife park sucks. It was much better when it was a poky mom and pop place. You don't see Tommy the schizophrenic donkey anymore.
And George was a corella at Caversham. I believe you've told me that story before!

Date: 2006-12-10 09:36 am (UTC)Ascot Water Playground was pretty much how it sounds. Lots of pools and slides with areas for all ages, so the little kids could paddle and the big kids could play. It's been a fair while since I was there obviously, but I remember it was great fun.
Actually, the fire was at Whiteman Park, not sure how much it effected the Caversham bit. Lots of bushland was destroyed though and some wildlife killed. Here's the press release. Also, if you search google news for whiteman park you'll find a few articles. It was only last Sunday.
Probably! Either me or my Mum--I have a vague memory she took us there once?

Date: 2006-12-10 01:12 pm (UTC)It annoys me that this is gone. I wanted to take my class there....
Dizzy Lamb Park, Wanneroo
I remember it, I didn't like it, so I don't care that it's no longer as it was.
Atlantis, Two Rocks -
Yep. remember this too. I had lots of fun. I remember watching the seals do acts and the dolphins jumping... And that neptune statue.. I am sorta glad it's no more, due to the way they had the animals acting.. but I remember it being fun.
Action Park, Mirrabooka -
That's down the road from my grandmas. I remember when they made it and they created the hills for the slides. Now I drive past it and the've removed the hills they created. They were pretty piss poor slides, so no wonder it didn't last.
It's A Small World, West Perth
Don't really remember this.
Castle Fun Park
Don't remember this.
Ascot Water Playground
I loved ascot water playground. I think it may still exist, as I remember something about the YMCA owning it while I worked for them. It rocked as a water playground though...
Bullens Lion Park -
Don't remember this
Castledare, near Kent Street Weir - What is here exactly? Just a minature train?
Don't remember this
Kalamunda Wet & Wild -
Had some good times here. The slides were better than the ones in mirrabooka. I got so burned here... damn sun
Fat Cat's B'day at the Entertainment Centre -
Don't remember
Christmas Pageants when they were still in daylight and up the northern end of the city - heh, this year they probably were again due to daylight savings.
