Red Eye in the cargo hold

The plan was to take a few bottles of Red Eye with me to Malaysia. Mainly so I can survive the first day because I will have had little sleep beforehand.

Last night Msquared brought up a valid point - Red Eye is carbonated and cargo holds are not pressurised.

I can't take it in my onboard luggage because it's in glass bottles.

Anyone have any experience with this? Should I not take them?

In Malaysia? Use Red Bull instead? Red Bull I believe is freely available in most of the asian countries. The real Red Bull is made in Thailand (we et a wussy westerner version in cans) and is in small glass bottles.

And you should be able to buy some in the larger cities in Malaysia and then carry that around with you.

Can't stand the taste of Red Bull (or any other brand of energy drink apart from Red Eye).

As far as I know Red Eye is only sold in Australia, where it's made. :(

Someone did suggest that at the party last night and it is an option, but it's one of those drinks that only tastes good out of glass.

I think I'll just have to drink lots of mango nectar instead.

see... I remember bringing my US cke from Melbourne, I was concerned what the cabin presure might do to the cans... and I had alot of canned drinks... see I have been in a couple badly pressurised cabins I have also used presurised cabins to spurt drink at unsuspcting annoyting children (remember, take a plastic bottle of water with a pop top with ou on the flight, take a few sips at the airport, then when you go to drink it on the plane... aim at said annoying kid)

the bottle should be better than any oher container in the hold. I have had bottles of mouthwash explode in the hold... though they are always in plastic

they would be better off tinthe hold though... glass is stronger than platic like that.

I can't see why you're being told no glass containers in hand luggage. What about all the duty free liquids!

I don't know for sure if it's not allowed. But I just thought it would be because you can break glass and make a weapon out of it.

And 3 bottles of Red Eye would probably tip over the weight of my hand luggage. One bottle though...

And the airport phoneline is closed on weekends. Useful, seeing as fly out just after midnight on Sunday night.

Well, double check with your airline, but I've never had a problem with sealed glass bottles - and that's for regional, domestic and international flights. They serve your onboard wine in a little bottle, so I can't see how they'd stop you smashing it anyway.

And now that I think of it, there is some pressurisation in cargo holds, because that be where the pets go. Play it safe and go with your handluggage though.

Richard brought over 4 bottles of Dr Pepper from the US for me a little while ago and they were in his cargo-hold luggage. The bottles actually have warning labels on them saying that the pressurisation (woah sp?) can cause the tops to explode off and not to hold near the face or eyes. He took them in regular luggage and they survived fine. Having said that, they were plastic, and the other thing to consider is that luggage isn't so delicate to the handlers putting them on the plane/carousel, and it is glass your taking.

They only pressurise the cargo hold when there are pets on board - so this may cause the differential results of explosions - some flights may have had pets and some may not have ... :P
