The gates don't keep her in. At least not while the futon is where it is. She managed to clamber up it and over the wall into the kitchen. I'm just glad all she knocked off was a magazine and a pile of serviettes. At the other end of the counter is a tree of mugs.

She must have escaped not long after I went to bed because Matt tells me she was on the lounge in the loungeroom when he went to bed.

She pooped in the laundry. Possibly because she couldn't get back IN to the back room to use the tray. Possibly because she would have gone there anyway.

Now it was damn easy to clean up off the slate floor, probably easier than cleaning a litter tray. But I want the peace of mind of knowing she'll use the tray and not some random part of the house. I put the poo in the tray in an attempt to give her a hint and we'll flatten the futon in an attempt to keep her in the back room.

Yeah, you're going to have some problems with her to begin with, unfortunately. She's just been through a lot AND she's old, so it'll take her a while to adjust. Just make sure not to reinforce her bad behaviour and try to keep your cool if she drives you nuts - some animals seem to think that you chasing them around screaming is a POSITIVE thing *glares at his birdies* but that's just me being a bloody wealking.

She'll use it eventually, but it may help to have a couple of trays in different locations, even. It IS going to be difficult to begin with. *hugs* She's just been through a lot, you know? And when you're old you get stuck in your ways more, and it's a lot of shock. At first it was all "Oh, this is nice!" and then it was "Um, where am I? I don't feel safe, I don't feel secure. My tummy is in knots. I'm nervous. I'm just gonna go over here and let it go. Oh my tummy is still in knots."

If you can't handle it you can't handle it, but if you can I'm sure she'll really appreciate it and let it show. :)
