She went on the bathmat again.

At least she went about the same time, so tomorrow I can try a few things.

- Around the same time make sure the bathroom door is closed and/or the bathmat is off the floor.
- Lock her in the back room. It seems the gate can keep her in there, and her food and litter tray is in there, as well as a futon and a towel underneath the bookshelves where she likes to hide.

I put her in there for a bit this evening after she started to sit in an alarming way on my lap (the kinda way that means they're about to go on you). When I went out to check on her she miaowed at me and looked at me and it just broke my heart dammit, so I let her out.

Should I put her in there tonight? Last night she peed once more, but that second time was in the litter tray, even though she had the run of the house and there was a bathmat.

Gah, I have no idea. Can I have a cat that doesn't need to eliminate?

All I can think of is putting the bathmat in the litter tray, and finding a new bathmat, and that probably wouldn't be effective.

And yes, but you require two of those teleporters like in that episode of the Simpsons, where they put the dog and the cat in and end up with two rear ends, and two front ends..

Aww. I expect she'll stop when she gets used to the place; she's probably freaked out at such huge changes if she's lived in the same place with same owner for 12 years.

My kitty peed on my doona once. I was under it at the time, and it was 4am. Not happy, Jan.

She seems to be pretty used to the house already. She knows the loungeroom is warmest and most cushy and the room she is put in ISN'T (it's not carpeted, but it has a cozy futon and a few towels on the floor for bedding.

Cooking Fat, my old cat, used to sometimes sit on my lap when I was cross legged and wearing my school uniform dress. Obviously the depression looked like a hole in the ground because he'd often pee there. One time when I was 5 we'd just returned from a holiday and I picked him up to give him a cuddle. Obviously a bad time because he shat all over me.

I loved that cat to bits though.

Wash the bathmat in white vinegar, I say vinegar, because normal deoderants and washing liquids won't get rid of the 'smell' to a cat's nose, but vinegar is a great deoderiser *and* deterrent.

Make sure it's easy for her to 'see' the litter-tray too perhaps? I put the litter-tray under my bed once and Moet started going on our bathmat instead...

The tray is in the corner of a large room, but pretty much in the open. I've also shown it to her multiple times.

It IS directly across from her food. But that is a few metres away still. She did use the tray to pee in the night before last.

My cat likes to randomly piss on our bed while we're sleeping...all over the doona so we hafta wash the cover and inside. PAIN IN THE ARSE!
He does have a litter tray which he knows how to use, and he is often outside, so I think he just does it on purpose to piss (no pun intended) us off. Not that that's what your new (or should I say old?) cat is doing. She probably just needs some time to get used to her new place. Treat her every time she uses the litter tray. And cross your fingers that she's not just a bitch like my cat! =)

Peeing elsewhere can be a sign of urinary and kidney problems.
