Interesting how this rather large portion of the job stems from the fact that so many people go to the bank for a large transaction and don't bring signature ID.
Yes, those seem to only exist to deal with teh_stoopid. If I had a dollar for everyone who calls me looking for a bus without knowing the name of the street they want to catch it on... well, I would own the world.
I shall soon be sorting mail for Australia Post, teehee. Pity it is only on call relief, the base payrate is $3 more than I am making now. I boggled--I was expecting it to be less. Turns out I am underpaid as well as undervalued.
Not really a call centre. There are only 3 phones and up to 5 staff (including myself). There is plenty of work other than answering phones.
Pretty much, if a person goes into a Westpac branch and wants to make some transaction that requires a signature, but they don't have it, someone from the bank calls us with their account details and we grab out their file (which includes a page with their signature on it) and fax it over to the bank. These calls are busiest in the mornings and tend to quiet down in the afternoons, so we can get on with real work.
