Is currently sitting on a chair under the kitchen table.

Yes, I was able to pick him up quite easily and bring him inside. He wandered around a bit sniffing and looking very wary, then he jumped up on the seat and settled in. I've been able to pat and scritch him without any trouble at all.

I think he's tolerating me now.

He sat under the kitchen table for a quite a while and even got a bit smoodgy! He was bunting my hand and I was giving him scritches under the chin and around the ears.

He just got up tho and is now underneath the futon. It's gonna be a lot tougher to get him out of there. I'd let him stay in but I don't want him relieving himself inside, I don't have a litter tray yet (I wonder if he knows how to use one?) and I don't know if he realises there's a cat door either.

I think you might just have to keep an eye on him for the time being until he comes out. Maybe show him the cat door when he does? Use the lure of food?

There's the weird thing.

Food doesn't seem to be working as well anymore. It's as if the novelty has worn off.

How bizarre...I'm sure you'll figure him out sooner or later :)

I have to agree about the litterbox; my furbabies trained themselves, it was wonderful.

Sadly there were the deliberate transgressions from both while I was trying to breed them, but now they're both snipped there are none of those either.

If you've got any sort of tray or box you can fill with sand then that should work for litter in the short term. (Even in the long term--we didn't buy litter for ages but just used sand from the backyard. Worked fine, but needed changing more often.)

I'd say he more than tolerates you, I'd say you have a cat :)

I've never met a cat that hasn't taken to a litterbox when shown one. It's pretty instinctual with them.

Phantom doesn't have a litterbox, she can go out as she pleases during the day.

She had a litter box, but her habit is to excavate about 5 large holes, and use the last one and not fill in the previous holes. So a litter tray didn't really suffice, she couldn't dig enough holes or big enough holes so we just ended up with litter all over the laundry and her going elsewhere anyway. Hey, at least she tried.
