I have to agree about the litterbox; my furbabies trained themselves, it was wonderful.
Sadly there were the deliberate transgressions from both while I was trying to breed them, but now they're both snipped there are none of those either.
If you've got any sort of tray or box you can fill with sand then that should work for litter in the short term. (Even in the long term--we didn't buy litter for ages but just used sand from the backyard. Worked fine, but needed changing more often.)
