gemfyreI spotted him out the front window being a loaf. Looking very cute.
I filled a bowl with Whiskas, as soon as I opened the front door he must have bolted because he wasn't there, but I looked around the corner and there he was in the backyard. Made eye contact, shook the bowl and then put it down in front of the window and went back inside.
I saw him slinking around the side of the house then he appeared at the bowl and started wolfing down the food. I sat at the side of the window with the blinds lifted back to watch him - so I wasn't sitting directly in front of him. He'd eat a bit then look at me cautiously then eat a bit more. Eventually I moved and that spooked him. :( I saw him through another window and made eye contact again before going out the front and getting the bowl - he ate maybe two thirds of a full bowl.
I then spotted him sitting near the shed. I put the bowl out the back and he just watched me. Then I put some water out next to it.
Hopefully he'll soon start associating me with the food and realise that I don't want to chase after him while he eats. Next challenge is getting him to eat out of my hand. THEN once that trust is established I'll try to touch him - I can't see him liking that. I'm pretty sure he's been abused or chased by kids or SOMETHING because he's so scared, so I just know he's gonna flinch when I touch him, I've seen it in enough RSPCA cats.
Hopefully things keep progressing though. And I might find him a better name than Greycat. Heck, I might even find out if he is really a he.

Date: 2006-02-19 04:48 am (UTC)We were patient and gentle with him and evetually he became VERY affectionate. He didn't like being picked up but he DID love rubbing his cheeks on you and nice scratches and pats. So you might be surprised. Once he trusts you, he might love you! :) Good luck!
