I unexpectedly got to do Shorebird Disturbance Monitoring today. Which meant 4 hours alone watching shorebirds, which is great seeing as I'm feeling particularly anti-social lately. During my time there I wrote a list of interesting, somewhat feral experiences I've had while up here (some I had had before, some I had not), and I was wondering who else has done the same. So I present the following poll.

[Poll #549064]

We get gecko's in our house all the time at home - although I don't think any of them have got stuck in any electrical equipment yet.

"Been shat on by a bird"

LOL! Daily!

Euthanizing animals- I hope that counted birds as well. I've had to do a few, unfortunately. It still hurts though it's been long.

Done a dissection or closely inspected roadkill, stuff like that.

I didn't know what that meant either... lol, not being from Austrailia I found some other words were kinda... huh?... to me too :P

hmm, most of mine are based around doing a 3 year Biology degree, plus rescuing small things (or not so small things) from cats.

and your marsupial one is biased! I am now in the UK, and have been bitten by yellow necked field mice, shrews, had a handfull of baby mice fall out of a longman's trap into my plastic bag (and being bitten by mom, who subsequently killed all babies)...

sigh. Good days (once they are over).

not sure that I've actually answered all the ones i have done, but at least all the ones i can remember.

we had a spider live (and eventually die) in the water level indicator of one of the kettles at my parents place.
I knocked a roo down with my car once, but it hopped off, so i have no idea if it was injured. and I've probably found injured animals before also.
does killing a bird while driving count as euthenasing... or wild pests on a farm?
and i've probably been through knee deep mud at some time, especially when i used to cycle out onto the mudpan near minlaton.
I've also helped slaughter and butcher a sheep or 2 on a farm, would that count as 'dabbling' in a dead animal?

*cuddles*

I remember that spider! Poor thing.

As for the lappy, it runs XP I'm pretty sure. Windows essentially doesn't like the drivers because they aren't digitally signed.

I lied slightly about the geckos - I stayed in a place in Indonesia that had them everywhere inside and out, but we didn't have a printer there. *looks sheepish*

And I didn't realize "dabbling in a dead animal" could refer to dissection, because I've definitely done that too.

Also, what is "bush bashing?" Besides insulting the US president? ; )

Ooooh, where in Indonesia? They're everywhere where I am.

I went to Bali for a week when I was 10 years old - it was FANTASTIC!

Where are you? : )

Bush bashing is walking directly through the bush where there is no path.

The terminology may be slightly different, and we don't get wild marsupials out here other than Virginia Opossum (which I've never seen in Arizona) but I have done a lot of this.

My "Shat On By" List

Larus occidentalis / Western Gull
Cyanocitta stelleri / Steller's Jay
Passer domesticus / House Sparrow

I don't have a printer, so a "no" to the gecko question.
