Possum magic!
Aug. 8th, 2005 09:19 pmHad to run a sick pelican into town tonight (lucky it co-incided with a late drop-off/pickup I was going to do anyway).
The woman who cares for sick birds arrived at the meeting point with her two dogs in the car and a baby northern brushtail possum on her shoulder. My God that possum was the essence of cute. And I got to hold it on my shoulder while she wrangled the pelican into her holding cage. It scuttled onto my back and kinda licked between my shoulder blades. Hehe. I think I want a pet northern brushtail now, they are so much cuter than the southern form.
And can I pick 'em! I had to pick up a Canadian pair from the airport, but I realised when I got there that I was wearing my "civvies" and I wondered how they'd recognise me. No problem, I recognised them! I must have birder radar. I saw a likely couple, walked up to the woman and asked "Is your name Woodford?" and she was like "YES!" Haha, at least it meant it was no drama picking them up.
Today was flat out, cheques, banking, serving customers, selling shit (shop profit this month is already over $1000!), answering phones, making rooms up, giving tours. We were out of sheets, but we weren't bothered because someone in town was picking up a load. The problem is the fucking linen cleaning company loves to close at random hours! Of course when we desperately needed sheets the doors were shut. This was around 3pm. Utterly ridiculous. Lucky the sheet crisis has been averted by the use of Ricki's washing machine and the fact that some guests have their own sheets, thank God for that.
