In Europe we have Icterine Warblers, which are common enough to abbreviate. Hence "I had an icky this morning."

Birders don't help, referring to skuas as 'screwers' and phalaropes as 'phalluses'. What they make of Kentish Plover I leave you to work out for yourself.
