I've realised something. Whenever you have a bunch of people that work with animals, the conversation always deteriorates into conversation about shit. At least talking to a dog kennel volly at the RSPCA Christmas party constantly reinforced the reason why I work in the cattery.
Dad sprung on me last night that I would go in for my MR learner's permit today. He handed me a sheet of questions and answers and told me I had to memorise them. Memorise I did (in one night!) Then when I got to do the test I discover it's multiple choice! Too easy! I got 10 out of 10.
Apparently I learn how to drive this truck and have my examination on the 29th. Well, at least that will get that over and done and I can panic about various other things to do with new job. Also booked my flight yesterday. I leave at 5pm on February 1st. *bounces in excitement*
I'm gonna hafta pack specific boxes of stuff I may want frieghted up. So I can tell mum and dad "I need this box, this box and this box." and everything I need comes up.
Due to learner's test I was late to Fauna Rehab but that was okay. Today among other things I had to catch 4 just fledging ducks and move them to a different cage and I hand fed the honeyeaters! I adore doing that, you dip your fingers in the nectar and they lick it off. However one of these guys kept trying to eat my finger so I moved onto mealworms, they obviously wanted solid food.
One of the girls that works there apparently knows very little about birds. So little that last week she asked "Are these magpies meant to have mince? I just didn't see any left in there and I was wondering if they were on a vegetarian diet or something." *bangs head on wall* I explained that magpies were meat eaters and she gave them some mince. Today Kylie came out of the recovery room carrying a young kookaburra and the phone rang. So she shoved the kookaburra into this girls hands. She had no idea what to do! It was hillarious. I helped her get the wings under her hand and she was fine holding onto it for a few minutes.
The cygnet is growing up. Now instead of the constant squeaky sound he makes it's half swan honk, half squeak. Then there were the two joeys Kylie brought in. They were both sitting in thier pouches in the basket and being fed at the same time. Extremely cute.
Well, Christmas is tomorrow! Mum has already spent loads buying me nice clothes for up north. I've really lucked out this Christmas, but I guess nabbing the job of your dreams does that.
