your roll on deodorant contains aluminium which stops the itching because it counteracts the poison. toothpaste dries the spot out as it does with pimples... being english the mozzies love my sweet foreign blood so I usually dont carry calamine with me everywhere and have to improvise.

Lavendar oil...if you have some on hand. Works on all sorts of things like poison ivy/oak, bug bites, rashes, pretty much anything that itches.
