Yesterday I went and met
shirazz who sold me some computer parts. We were going to meet up anyway and we didn't kill each other so there's a good sign. I think we shall do more together. :) I also met her two cutie orange kitties.
We then went to WENDYCON 2004! (i.e.
sassamifrass's 21st party) and it was great. Many many funny and silly and interesting people. And learning more Jade keywords is always fun. She sure hit the motherlode in the presents department but that's possibly because she's such an awesome person and you can't help but love her and shower her with gifts. *hugs to Wendy*
This morning Matt put the new bits in my computer with some rather promising sounds of "Oh this looks good!" and "Uh huh!" We discovered the CPU had well and truly fried so who knows if the actual motherboard is still good or not?
Unfortunately when we plugged it in and turned it on it made promising sounds but no bikkie from the monitor. Hopefully Kim can work magic with it tomorrow. The most bothersome thing is that now FirstEvil won't work either! *kicks dumb computers* Why do you always do this to me??!
Now I am off to karaoke with
lotus79 so we can practice for competition and THEN if I'm still alive I may pop down to Josh's b'day party for a bit.
Tomorrow I want to get my computer fixed. Go to Zest while they are free for the weekend and try to win a membership and possibly drag Matt along for a birdwalk at Herdsman. He managed to weasel his way out of it today but he can't do it forever!

Date: 2004-06-26 12:12 pm (UTC)I remember when we first started e-baying....
about 30 auctions on the go. The hard drive died just as everything was ending.
That was stressful

Date: 2004-06-28 07:05 am (UTC)With no badging & such maybe it's just a generic one. Grrr - I was told it was in fine working order. Meh - hopefully you can get around the graphics thing seeing as there's both a pci & agp one.
We've only ever had 2 AMD machines - if it was a Pentium it'd have been SO much easier....

Date: 2004-06-28 07:26 am (UTC)Neither of the cards seem to working which the boys have figured probably means that the slot in the motherboard is possibly buggered. *shrug*

Date: 2004-06-28 10:45 am (UTC)Where did you get the graphics drivers for it? Kim thinks XP may just automatically have them but we're not sure. Any ideas?

Date: 2004-06-29 10:04 am (UTC)1. You don't know if any of that RAM was good or not?
2. Were you using the onboard or an add-on graphics card with that motherboard? If it was an add-on was it one of the cards you gave me? For some reason none of the three cards we have now (my old one and the new two) seem to work with the motherboard.
3. XP can't run on it due to lack of RAM (it did have a problem with the hard drive too but that might be rectified now) so I can't use it to get the motherboard drivers. Unfortunately they don't come with 98 so at the moment I'm running on low colour and resolution. Any further ideas/suggestions?

Date: 2004-06-29 11:09 am (UTC)2) That wasn't the machine I had before my current one (those bits went "missing" without my knowledge & that's why I assumed it was the one & the same) That particular board came from J's stepdad who is a computery person & he tested it & said it was all sweet.
3) J has offered to have a look at it for you if everyone's tearing their hair out your end.
I feel so bad - this was meant to be the quick & easy solution to your computer woes & it's just making more woe!
Stupid things....
