If you have any further questions about LJ workings, they're all easily answered by the FAQ. So far every time someone has asked a question about LJ, it takes fifteen seconds to find the answer on the faq... so yeah - it's a good resource. But seeing people have answered your questions already, I won't bother giving you links to the relevant faq pages ^^; But seriously, use the FAQ, Luke :P
Nah, honestly it was like 1am and I was dead but wanted to start sticking in memories before I forgot.
I've figured it all out from the simple answers I got here anyway. I find FAQs sometimes are worded in such a way that they just make things more confusing.
