The word "quiz" appeared one night a couple hundred years ago or so. Some guy made a bet with another guy that he could invent a new word.

That night he graffitied the word "quiz" all over the town and the next day everyone was like "What the fuck is quiz?" So now a quiz is any questionarre like thingy.
