"An international conference was held in Perth last weekend – on aliens. The organisers claim that there are about 800 people who have had contact with extra-terrestrials. Metallic implants, special languages and government and media cover ups were discussed. What do you think? Is there life outside planet earth? Are we being asked to believe in a fairytale, or has rationalism dulled our minds so that we’ll only believe what we personally see and touch?"
My reply
I was just thinking today about how I hope I'll be alive when the results from the Europa probe come back, but they haven't even sent that probe out yet!
Alien encounters on Earth? I'm not quite sure if I believe most of the tales, but hey, who am I to say? I wasn't there.
I am a member of the SETI program and I think that's an excellent program, but maybe it's approaching from the end. Seeking a signal from an intelligent race elsewhere.
I think things like the Mars (and future Europa) probes are the way to go. I think the possibility of finding that life does or did exist on Mars is high. But there won't be little green men. Just simple organisms, it's still life to me, and exciting!!
And who's to say that we'll recognise life on far off planets when we see it? Maybe "life" on other planets will not be carbon and DNA based, it could be completely different, we have no way of knowing.
