I've learned quite a few things in my studies over the last few years.

The reason for life is to pass on ones genes. We really are nothing but elaborate vessels for a nucleic acid to replicate. Via natural selection the strongest genes survive and so life is constantly evolving and improving itself.

Humans go and screw this up. Among humans those with "less fit" genes are able to breed. Many with "more fit" genes choose not to breed. Third world, generally less fit and less educated populations breed out of control while developed, more educated nations birthing rate is dropping. Yes, yes, I know Hitler and such thought things like this, they called it eugenics. Thing is, in a way they were right. The problem was however the usual one extreme to the other. It was still people trying to play God rather then just letting nature take it's course.

I mean, if it weren't for these amazing medical miracles people I love would not be here. I sure as hell am not going to a Hitler and chose who should live and who should die. That is not for ANY human to decide! But on the large scale it should still work as natural selection, we shouldn't interfere. For the good of the Earth.

My other point was about how humans are biologically K breeders but have become R breeders. R & K breeding are terms applied to mammals.
K breeders are large mammals, they mature slowly and have few offspring very occaisionally. The young are raised by parents for many years before becoming independent. The population hovers at equilibrium. Think elephants, think great apes, think... humans.
R breeders are small mammals, they mature very quickly and have large litters often. Parental care is very brief to non-existent. Their populations grow and grow and grow until suddenly the resources run out and CRASH. Think lemmings, think mice and rats, think cats, think... humans.

Due to agriculture, society and capitalism we have gone from being what we should biologically be to being pretty much very large rats. Sucking up resources faster than they can ever be replaced. And it's encouraged by capitalist governments because it's good for the economy or something, also, more population equals more soldiers if you go to war. Once again, we've fucked it all up.

Discuss.

rats dont overuse resources -- their numbers are entirely dependent on resources. and while theyre highly adaptable to different environments and resources they still dont modify environments and create resources.

well...at least i dont think they do anyway :)~

and that mentality of sucking up resources is very encouraged by a bunch of dickheads calling themselves "People before Planet", their mentality is pretty much screw future generations, take everything for ourselves here and now.

as for capitalists -- *shrug* i dont particularly care for any form of government, they all have their good points, their bad points and are all good in theory but none of them work. anarchy is included in the theory of governments that have good and bad points and dont work.

as for natural selection the human plague...nature has its own way of dealing with things. human stupidity is its most effective weapon. if not for human stupidity we'd all be living in a utopia coz there wouldn't be wars, famines, plagues etc and everyone would be able to resolve thingsd with minimal difficulty and governments would actually function effectively and get shit done (now there's a thought). but because of human stupidity we have people happily running off to kill themselves "in the name of king and country" or "freedom" or "conquest of the universe" or "educating the savages" or whatever ideal they delude themselves into believing that theyre following (i have nothing against missionaries, they are doing a good thing, but i am deadset against people who are stupid enough to try to force their religion/belief/opinions/all the above on others).

the other contributing factor is "natural disasters" which arent disasters so much coz theyre jes stuff that happens, they are only "disasters" coz if they happen where for some inane reason people decided to build communities (on fault lines, flood plains, in the smack centre of tornado country) and when they happen they have this nasty habit of taking people out with them. that would relate back to human stupidity cept for the fact that some of them are there for completely valid reasons (like the people living on the Nile in ancient Egypt...though i am reasonably certain they were sensible enough to live above the floodline).

im not even sure if this was in line with the original thing but its related and its an opinion :)~
