I would not be at all surprised if he also knew of the ploy to kill Joffrey, it suited him. Get Joff off the throne, send Cersei back to Casterley Rock with Jaime - so they could be happy together there, put Tommen on the throne and have him and Kevan as his advisers instead of Cersei who spoils her kids rotten.
Framing Tyrion just gave him a bit of an opportunity to be an ass to his least favourite son, but ultimately it would get Tyrion to The Wall and Tywin knows of Tyrion's skill for strategy, he would have been a great asset on The Wall.
He just didn't count on his kids being independent entities. Jaime said no, fuck you, I'm Lord Commander of the Kingsguard thanks. Tyrion said no, fuck you, you've always been an asshole to me now I'm gonna kill you.
Cersei probably would have gone along with it, but now she doesn't have to, but she has the deaths of her son and father to drive her a bit bonkers in the process.
So you see, Tywin was just concerned about peace and the realm all along!

Date: 2013-10-31 04:40 am (UTC)I think he pinned more hope on Tyrion than it seems. Though he didn't want Tyrion to hold Casterly Rock, if he had legitimate off spring to a well bred match (Sansa) Tywin could not deny Casterly Rock to his legitimate grandchildren, and the illegitimate ones he figures are going to die anyways because thats what you get when you rule.
but true power is in the hand and being hand doesn't make you bankrupt like king does, instead it can make you very rich.
