I slept until about 11pm when I realised I hadn't turned up the air-con enough and I was sweating profusely. So I turned it down to really cold, snuggled up under my quilt, and slept like a rock until 4am, when I got up and went to the loo then slept again until 6am. MUCH better. And the bugs weren't too bad later into the night.

Now time to pack, eat breakfast, then head to Broome. Yay!

Finally I arrive in my beloved town )

I woke a bit after 6am and the first thing on the agenda was to go to the toilet – this caravan park is huge and really doesn't have enough toilet blocks. I took my binoculars, as you do when it's daylight. Outside was warm and humid and the tide was out. I scanned the flats briefly and saw a huge flock of waders winging in to feed. That got me excited. I went to the loo, got dressed and took my scope out right away. Most of the birds were very far off, but I was able to ID a few species. I was also greeted by Friarbirds whooping and a flock of Red-winged Parrots – these parrots seemed to spend the whole day wheeling around from the mangroves to the trees in the park and back again. Just the smell of the bay was magnificent. I made myself a breakfast of bacon and eggs then prepared to head out to Coconut Wells. Just before I left a fellow camper pointed out a pod of dolphins out on the bay, so I watched them for a few moments before leaving.

I love this place )

Today was shopping day! I slowly woke up and grabbed my scope to have a look at the mudflats and managed to ID a few waders that were out there – it's always a nice way to start the day.

I made myself what I thought was small breakfast of marmite and melted cheese on toast, which turned out to be quite filling. I ate it while watching footage of that massive earthquake/tsunami in Japan.

In which I go pearling )

This morning I intended to take a stroll on the tidal flats before having bacon & eggs for brekky and packing at a leisurely pace. I woke up and checked the time – 8am. Crap. So much for that walk. I still managed too cook up my big brekky and pack by 10am and I bid Roebuck Bay Caravan Park goodbye. I wish I didn't have to go.
