Apparently a lot of areas are cordoned off an designated as crime scenes.

While I totally agree that the bastards who started this should be caught and drawn and quartered and burned at the stake and all, marking it as a crime scene means no-one but emergency services (for humans) can get in.

This means no wildlife rescue groups can get in. No vets can get in. The few days the area will be cordoned off is too long for the wildlife and livestock struggling in the aftermath. The death toll for them will rise astronomically. :(

Healesville Sanctuary managed to transport their endangered species down to Melbourne before the roads were closed. This includes the critically endangered Helmeted Honeyeaters and Orange-bellied Parrots.

Yellingbo - the last stronghold of the Helmeted Honeyeater has been spared, but I guess it's still touch and go depending on weather conditions and which moron is where. The Bunyip fire could turn then it would be at risk.

At this time of year the Orange-bellied Parrots are in the Tasmanian forest, hopefully having a successful breeding season.
