The good news
Feb. 10th, 2009 10:04 amHealesville Sanctuary managed to transport their endangered species down to Melbourne before the roads were closed. This includes the critically endangered Helmeted Honeyeaters and Orange-bellied Parrots.
Yellingbo - the last stronghold of the Helmeted Honeyeater has been spared, but I guess it's still touch and go depending on weather conditions and which moron is where. The Bunyip fire could turn then it would be at risk.
At this time of year the Orange-bellied Parrots are in the Tasmanian forest, hopefully having a successful breeding season.
