I am super centipede girl
Oct. 16th, 2005 08:39 am(I wish I had a bird icon).
So yeah, all night mist netting last night at Taylor's Lagoon. There I was chatting to Liz, minding my own buisness when I feel what I think is an ant taking a chomp out of my toe. I swipe it away and Liz and I see a small centipede scuttling off. Great. Having never been stung by one before I wasn't sure what to do. I put it on ice. It would sting for a few seconds every minute then stop hurting. Eventually I just put my mud boots on and it didn't bother me too much. It now only hurts when I walk on it. Either I am super immune to centipede venomn or it just didn't sting very enthusiastically. It shouldn't have, I wasn't bothering it.
Lots of neat birds last night. Got to band and process a few - Red-kneed Dotterel, Black-fronted Dotterel, Long-toed Stint... Got to bed around 2am. *yawns*
I didn't like the part where I woke up around 5:30am with an excruciating pain in my side. Took some ibuprofen to deal with that. Catching up with Yasmin this afternoon.
And continuing the tradition of quick morning bird lists. The bird baths were going off while I was having breakfast.
crested pigeon, bar-shouldered dove, peaceful dove, sacred kingfisher, rainbow bee-eater, little friarbird, singing honeyeater, yellow-tinted honeyeater, brown honeyeater, rufous-throated honeyeater, zebra finch, double-barred finch, long-tailed finch
I haven't seen a Sacred Kingfisher in ages! Especially not at the bird baths. Never seen a Yellow-tinted Honeyeater there before, but Stu saw one just after he arrived here so it does happen.
