I was pondering a few night ago. I LOVE biology, anatomy, evolution, genetics, vulcanology, astronomy etc.

But I don't like the units I'm doing like Conservation Biology, it just seems to make my brain mush and piss me off. And I think I figured out why. It's the same as Human Services did to me. It's humans doing stuff. And humans will only care about thier selfish interests and be stupid and materialistic and pathetic and capitalist. Con Biol, like Human Services is mainly about passing the buck, applying for funding grants and getting nothing done.

I know it's "how it works in real life" but that doesn't mean it can't piss me off no end. If I had my way I'd allocate as much money as required for conservation efforts and tell any humans with arguments about losing their precious land or livelihood to stick it. A species that doesn't destroy it's home is more important to me.

All the subjects I am FASCINATED with (listed in first sentence) are just mother nature doing what she does. All that stuff will continue happening without humans as it did for the billions of years before humans. We may try and tinker with it but ultimately nature is in charge. And I love her work.

*huge nods*

The topics I find most interesting are genetics, evolution, diversity...

*High fives Gemfyre* Tis true. Even conservation is about passing the buck.

There is the classic "save the rainforest" selfish human thinking. "We should save the rainforest because who knows what kind of medicinal substances are in there that we have yet to find. The cure for cancer could be in there." *Speaker takes a big puff on his cigarette*

Geology, Biodiversity, Astronomy, ....gotta love that stuff. None of us hairless apes flinging our currency around in those subjects! If more people would dig deep into all this they might realize that the universe does not revolve around humans.....thank goodness!

I remember the first time I realised this... think I was reading some short story by Ray Bradbury in grade 9 or 10 English and basically the human race got wiped out by some huge explosion and afterwards the birds still came out to sing.
