Just finishing off the Christmas prawns for lunch today and thought of something I have often thought of. Apparently it is an Australian thing to say and do "throw another shrimp on the barbie". This kinda stumps me because 1. in Australia we call them prawns, not shrimp (shrimp are those tiny prawns you get in Chinese fried rice or frozen bags in the freezer section) and 2. in 28 years of living in Australia, I have never had a shrimp on the barbie. The standard cooking method is a quick boil, then peeling and dipping into seafood sauce/tartare sauce/thousand island dressing/whatever you please, sometimes accompanied by avocado. Of course there are also stir fries and garlic prawns, but again, no BBQ is involved.

In other news, earlier on I saw a large cockroach on the wall. That was okay, he was over there, I was over here. Maybe 10 minutes later I saw it FLYING around the room. Ack. However since then I've seen no sign of him. Matt reckons he's eating dust bunnies under the bed. He can stay there.
