gemfyreJust spent a good 10 minutes or so staring at the compost in my compost bin (after I'd turned it).
It's a hive of movement. Most of it is slaters or fruit flies but there's the odd slug or snail or earwig or spider. All busily digging and chewing through all the vegetable matter I chuck in there. Last week it was near full with the grass clippings after Matt mowed the lawn - now it's down to half full again due to it breaking down a bit and compacting.
One of the slaters is an albino. Oooh. If I had decent macro on my camera and if he hadn't dug underneath stuff I'd have taken a photo.
It got pretty wet a couple of weeks back because the winds managed to blow the lid over the back fence and it was a few days before I got it back (broken in two, but still usable). I think that's helped it out, the weather is also slowly, slowly getting warmer so decomposition will speed up.
Fascinating stuff.
I need a shower now. I got Seasol everywhere and my clothes are damp in spots because the damn water gun came off the hose again.
