I wanted a better topic, but that says it all I think...
I have now read every Koontz book written (no this doesn't include all his short stories, just the novels, tho I have read quite a few of the shorts as well). Chase was actually surprisingly good for one of his earlier books. Most of his early stuff is corny and has a cop-out ending. It was interesting however to see the exact same shrink show up in Chase as showed up in The Vision - the glass dog collecting Doctor Cauvel. The Vision was a book that had so much potential, it seemed to have lovely twists and be kind of unpredictable, but then it had a crappy cop-out ending. And I still don't get why there is a naked chick on the cover.
The quiz night was good!! *squeebounce* Completely disorganised but it worked and we made shitloads of money and everyone had a good time. Table 8 stunned me with their smart-arsedness. :) Table 9 stunned me with their sheer stupid drunkeness. And *bangs head on desk*. For the Charles Darwin question so many people actually added in later the "the" in "Origin Of The Species" when of course just "Origin of Species" is correct. Had loads of other interesting answers as well. Some mentioning "Evolution of the Species"... someone even wrote "Voyage of The Beagle" which was clever if wrong. And I was tempted to give points to Table 9 for writing Stromatolites in response to my oldest organism question. Technically it's wrong but considering the state of that table that was a DAMN intelligent answer anyway.
I have developed quite a taste for pre-mix Illusions (I hated it when I tried it from a jug once). They are just like green snakes, mmmm. I got bribed with 3 of them. :)
So it was all good. In the end we had loads of great prizes (even tho we had to frantically organise DURING the quiz where they would all go). $56 on the magnum of beer Matt got donated from the Tav, I think this should become the new Mars quiz night moneymaker. The pies just don't have the zing they did about 3 or 4 years ago, it was good to see old Marsians who knew what was going on get into it tho. We made a profit on the pies at least which is better than some previous years. It wasn't much, but every bit counts. Apparently we made about $300 all up (we sold out!!). Last years lost about that much and the actual night just sucked badly anyway. YAY!! We rule.

And on the subject of quiz night... hooray for table 8! I was sitting next to the guy they called "the professor". It was a nickname well earned, I can tell you. He was being polite and making conversation with me, but I felt like a complete idiot when he knew more about my major than I did... *sigh*
But I got me a box of Roses and a $25 book voucher outta it, so me very happy, though mostly undeserving.
