One thing to say
Humans suck.

But I do have faith that nature will prevail in the end.

Biological controls are great, if you are able to find a predator that feeds solely on the pest species, then once the pest species is controlled the biological control also dies down.

Unfortunately things aren't usually that ecologically simple. It's barely ever a food chain, it's a web. One animal eats many below it, and they eat many plants below them, and each is eaten by many animals. So finding a specific biological control is near on impossible for most of the pests we've spread around the world.

And then there's cats, gee, what DOES eat them in the wild?? NOTHING! I mean heck, domestic cats aren't even a SPECIES in the wild. Top carnivores like cats, that are beautifully adapted to cope with pretty much any conditions are pretty much impossible to get rid of once they're established. :(

If things do keep going the way they are the world will probably consist of nothing but humans, rats, domestic cats, cockroaches and pigeons.

Hmm.

I think my rats agree with you. They're all about survival. As much as they love to play with me, I secretly suspect they'd eat me without hesitation if the need arose ;)
I always wondered about humans in the food chain. I'm a vegetarian by choice, because that's how I want to live my life, but what are we really? If we evolved from apes what does that make us? Are there omnivore apes? We don't have teeth sharp enough to be carnivores. Yet we have eyes in the front of our head like predator species. Not that it makes a difference to me what we're naturally supposed to be, I'd still opt for vegetarian, but it's one thing that has me confused. Maybe it's just a Polish blonde thing, lol. The good news: us blondes are slated to die out from extinction ourselves in the next 200 years. At least, us natural blondes will ;)

biologically we are omnivores. And pretty close to pigs in many respects, hehe we were discussing the human/pig thing the lab yesterday.
