gemfyre: (Stinking (cigarette) butt)

People, it's not smokERS that I hate, it's smokING. Unfortunately, if you are smoking or have been smoking you will stink, it hangs around a lot longer than you think, and is a lot more noticeable than you think. If you are currently puffing away that reek is carrying a lot further than you think (often when I ping people for throwing their butts out of their cars, I'm first tipped off to the fact they HAVE a ciggy because I can smell the damn thing). It's comprimising my health and comfort. I don't like that. No, I HATE that, I DETEST that. And guess what - you CAN help it! Dont' give me some sob story about being addicted, or some bullshit about smoker's rights.

And I know every smoker that reads my tirades about littering says, "Oh I don't do that. Maybe not, but a lot of people who smoke cigarettes MUST DO or else we wouldn't have millions of butts anywhere but bins and ashtrays where they should be (where unfortunately, they continue to smell bad), and I wouldn't be pinging at least one driver a week for ditching their butt onto the road.

Thank you for reading.

And some of the students wonder how the teachers figure out they're having a puff before class...

They have no idea what they smell like :P

I have had smokers tell me they, too, hate the smell on others but can't tell when it is themselves. That and the fact that the addiction wins....

This so much. My co-worker smokes. She's a lovely person overall, but she reeks when she comes back from a ciggy break and is in total denial over it, she figures sucking on a mint afterwards makes it all better. Yet she complains about various other smells, some which don't even bother me.

A friend realised that she smelled intellectually but after being in a cloud of it for the last 10 minutes she no longer registered the smell so she honestly couldn't tell when returning to the room: her brain had filtered out the smell from her environment but could still smell new stuff that her brain had not habituated to.
Its akin to the reason why we are fairly bad at detecting our own BO :)
