Amazingly the costume I've planned for Swancon (which is at the beginning of April) which I got the idea for LAST Swancon, seems to be coming together at a decent pace.

Things I need

Wheelchair - If all else fails, these are only $20 to hire for a week. Trick is I want to be able to make additions to the chair and on a hire chair I'll have to make such additions easily removable. I'm thinking PVC pipe and luggage ties under the arms to hold the sticks. I would like a table kinda arrangement to sit a laptop on and pockets in the sides for batarangs.

A laptop - I don't think I'll have much trouble borrowing someone's for the evening, it's going to be there purely for looks.

Red hair - After some discussion, I think something like Lush Henna is the way to go. I want to dye my hair red anyway and I would prefer a dye that doesn't have all these nasty chemicals that make my scalp sting. Oh, and I don't want to bleach my hair, so I know I'll have to be content with a not-so-vibrant red. This is fine.

Yellow glasses - These are a good bet if I can't find anything similar in a real shop around the place.

A screenprinter - who can screenprint a yellow Batman logo on my black tank top (which I already have).

A bodypainter - This I'm still tossing up on. If I manage to read the story where Babs gets infected with Brainiac before Swancon, then I'll feel more comfortable having weird green things painted on my face and arm. Seeing as Swancon is seething with cosplayers, I don't imagine I'd have too much trouble finding a painter, I'd just need to find one who has neon green paint.

Escrima sticks - [livejournal.com profile] shadowshifter recommends bamboo from near her place. I like the look of burnt rattan ones, but they will cost me, and honestly, I'll probably never use them again.

Batarangs - Not essential, but it would just be cool to have some. Must poke J.P. about this again.

Have I forgotten anything? Can you help? Ideas and resources gratefully accepted.

www.hennaforhair.com. that is probably the most exhaustive website for dying hair using henna. You may be able to find a mix there that will do for you. I've seen some pretty bright results on people with naturally brown hair.

why not one an iron on (printable from your hope printer) type thing for the batman logo? would be easier surely than tracking down a screenprinter??

From previous experience I know that printable iron-ons are pretty crappy. After about 3 washes they start to peel and crack.

I've had good iron ons. I have this jacket where I ironed on a dragon (too elaborate to screenprint). It's a bit faded now, but it stayed good for years.

And now your comment about going in costume to the disability panel makes sense :)

I have no useful advice (beyond the fact that I *think* office works sells printable iron transfers which work on dark fabric) but that sounds like it's going to be cool!

Ooh!

Yellow logo on black top - will that work?

(At least I'm only going for one colour).

Yeeess. :)

I'll have a look around for suitable shapes. Either the Dark Knight or Arkham Asylum designs seem best. Nice pointy bits to stick in things. :)
